About
Bio
I'm a researcher probing into the many facets of natural and artificial intelligence. I earned my PhD from the University of Sussex, UK with a dissertation on active inference and causal cognition. Before that I obtained a MSc in Mind, Language, and Embodied Cognition from the University of Edinburgh, UK and a MA in Philosophy from the University of Bristol, UK. Further back, I graduated from Università degli Studi di Padova, Italy with a BA in Philosophy (but my academic history started with the pursuit of a Mathematics degree at the same university).
Research
My main research interest is to shed light on the nature of the mind (broadly construed) by relying on a variety of disciplines and approaches, ranging from the sciences and philosphies of cognition to artificial intelligence.
For some time now, my main focus has been on reinforcement learning (RL) as a mathematical and computational framework to understand intelligence, learning, and behaviour in adaptive agents. In particular, I am intrigued by approaches that pay some heed to nature's examplars (e.g., bio-inspired, continual and constrained RL, NeuroAI).
